On April 14, 1865 John Wilkes Booth, a famous actor and confederate sympathizer, shot Abraham Lincoln at a play at Ford Theater in Washington, D.C. Five days after a confederate General Robert E. Lee surrendered his army at Appomattox Court House, Virginia. Lee’s surrender ended a long and costly civil war.
A month before shooting President Lincoln, John and a couple of his followers were planing to kidnap Lincoln and take him to Richmond. This plan failed because Lincoln did not show up at the spot where Booth and his followers were waiting. After the assassination of Lincoln, John managed to escape with a broken leg and hop on a horse and leave Washington. John was never to be seen since then, the search for Booth was the one of the largest manhunt in history. 10,000 federal troops, detective and police were used to track down the assassin.
Was security back than as good as it is now? Uh not really to be honest, because before it could have been easy to maybe assassinate a President because there was no cameras and lack of technology.
Was there a possibility that someone else could have helped John Booth escape from Ford Theater so quickly? There could be a possibility, because its odd how with a broken leg John managed to hop on a horse and leave Washington without being spotted by anyone.
What could be a reason why anyone would want to assassinate a President? Well mostly a person or group of people may have there differences about how the President wanted to manage the country. Its all about politics and some people are way too passionate about politics. Emotions can get out of hand to the point that violent crime is committed.
