Why was the ICRC in Afghanistan?
A team of three drivers and five field officers was on its way to deliver livestock materials to an area in Jawzjan province when “unknown armed men” attacked it, the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) said. Gunmen killed six Red Cross workers on Wednesday in northern Afghanistan.
ICRC President Peter Maurer ,said, “We condemn in the strongest possible terms what appears to be a deliberate attack on our staff. This is a huge tragedy. We’re in shock.”
The red cross workers were just doing what they believed in “Help Those In Need”. The people who shot up their car should be ashamed, they aren’t humans. They don’t deserve compassion, just like they didn’t show any compassion for the red cross workers.
The red cross operates worldwide, it exists to provide compassionate care to those in need. whether it’s war or natural disasters the red cross will always be there to support people in distress. Their volunteers risk their life to go into dangerous places to bring medical supplies and food to people who are in trouble. They are a peaceful organization that provides relief to humanity.
What is the mission of the International Committee of the Red Cross?
The work of the ICRC is based on the Geneva Conventions of 1949, their Additional Protocols, its Statutes – and those of the International Red Cross and Red Crescent Movement – and the resolutions of the International Conferences of the Red Cross and Red Crescent. The ICRC is an independent, neutral organization ensuring humanitarian protection and assistance for victims of armed conflict and other situations of violence. It takes action in response to emergencies and at the same time promotes respect for international humanitarian law and its implementation in national law.
The International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) is an impartial, neutral and independent organization whose exclusively humanitarian mission is to protect the lives and dignity of victims of armed conflict and other situations of violence and to provide them with assistance.
Established in 1863, the ICRC is at the origin of the Geneva Conventions and the International Red Cross and Red Crescent Movement. It directs and coordinates the international activities conducted by the Movement in armed conflicts and other situations of violence.
