Many parents and teachers are worried about the way in which exposure to technology could affect young children from the point of view of development. Some teens keep busy on the screen for hours after school and until well after bedtime. When they are not doing their homework (and when they do) they are online, sending text messages, sharing, provoking, moving the cursor from top to bottom, whatever. Of course, before everyone had social media accounts, teens also stayed busy, but they were more likely to talk on the phone or in person when they went out.
What is Social Media? Social media is a phrase that we throw around a lot these days, often to describe what we post on sites and apps like Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, Snapchat and others.
The “social” part: refers to interacting with other people by sharing information with them and receiving information from them.
The “media” part: refers to an instrument of communication, like the internet (while TV, radio, and newspapers are examples of more traditional forms of media).

Social networks have changed the way young people communicate and relate. But for good or for bad?
Facebook, YouTube, Instagram, Twitter and Snapchat have become “indispensable” in the day to day of most teenagers and few people give up having a presence in any of these networks. Social Media have their advantages and disadvantages. One of the advantages that social networks have is that we can be in communication with our friends and family. We can also know opportunities through social media. But now many of young people misuse social media. Teenagers do not think about the danger that many run. In social media we do not know what kind of people we are going to face. A disadvantage that social media has is that many young people become addicted to them. Many teens do not get enough sleep and not sleeping 8 hours can bring many consequences. Even unknown people start doing bullying that is one of the biggest disadvantages that social media has because most teenagers get upset by any unkind words spoken to them. It is too easy to be a bully online. Depression is a big problem that parents needs to avoid with their children. This can be avoided by having a healthy balance between online time and face to face quality time with friends and family. Parents need to pay attention to teenagers. What photos they publish? Who are their friends? Who they talk?
