On 1898 a huge conflict against the Spain and U.S. army overcome in favor to the U.S. government. For years Cubans had been trying to cancel any political bond that joined them and Spain. Although Cuba is a small island, they did not think twice on defeating the Spanish armada.
After the U.S. battleship Maine exploded and sank in Havana harbor without any reason; U.S. military intervention in Cuba became likely. For more than 3 years of conflict against Spain, the U.S. forces fight against Spain Militias because of war declaration. The U.S. victory in the war produced a peace treaty that obligated Spain to abandon Cuba, and to give up over Guam, Puerto Rico, and the Philippines translating them to the United States.
On April 11, 1898, President William McKinley asked Congress for authorization to end the fighting in Cuba between the rebels and Spanish forces, and to establish a “stable government” that would “maintain order” and ensure the “peace and tranquility and the security” of Cuban and U.S. citizens on the island.
It is unreasonable how people fight over things that produce millions of death. I don’t understand how countries with much power can govern over islands and other lands that are not their property. Although money can buy almost everything,it does not mean it can buy a land with all its citizens in it. Cuba has been one of the poorest and most isolated islands for years, but they have known how to overcome in situation like the Spanish conflict.
