What is climate change? Why would older generations have a different perspective than younger generations?
Climate change is any significant long-term change in the expected patterns of average weather of a region (or the whole Earth) over a significant period of time. Older generations and younger generations have different perspectives on climate change because we all see it from a different perspective. Some of us care and some of us do not because we have more or less knowledge about the problem. Also the younger generation sees more effect on climate change because of technology that helps us see anything that’s happening around the world.
What are some of the effects of climate change and how might they also affect governments and economies?
Climate change has different effects around the world from the beginning of sea level rise to more extreme heat waves, it also affects animals and sometimes entire species are lost because of a destruction of habitat. Examples of this can be found in Coral Reefs that are dying due to changes in Ocean chemistry and temperature and in Rain forests that are burning do to over development in Brazil and changing weather extremes. Climate change also affects economies by damaging properties with fire and flood , it can also impact human health and productivity, and negatively affect sectors such as agriculture, forestry, fisheries, and tourism.
Do you consider it an investment to focus on human interaction with the environment and factors of climate change?
I do consider it an investment because if we don’t do it, it’ll just affect our daily lives and as time passes and we take no action it damages us and the Earth more. Some examples of how it would affect the Earth are:
Extreme Heat, this Rising temperatures will lead to an increase in heat-related deaths and illness.
Extreme weather putting life and property at risk.
Resource scarcity such as limited drinking water and limited food supply.
Rising prices for basic needs and income inequality.
What are some ways young people are acting on the issue?
The United Nations is increasing education by introducing their 15 year Global Goals for sustainable development to reach young students and motivate them to act. For more information on the UN Global Goals see the link below:
