Teens are not reading like they used to read decades ago. This generation has a bunch of technology that is literally changing the perspective in how young people see the world. It’s true that we had Harry Potter, Hunger Games and Twilight, but even though many people read those books; comparing the percentage over the decades, people can see the difference between this new generation.
Technology is good for this generation because it is keeping us updated to all the things that happen around the world and its making life easier, but at the same time, it has some disadvantages like the distractions we have from it. We can find any kind of things on the Internet. Parents and teachers can’t control what their kids search on the web, but they can encourage them to read online. Now that most schools are doing the E-book, some students do their homework online. Its easier for teens to have access to Internet on their smartphones and tablets to do all the work they need to do so much faster and in an organized way.
Teens don’t read for pleasure anymore, they read because they have to do an assignment at school. Some parents are trying to find time to read with their kids, and encourage them to have the habit to read. More parents should try to follow those steps.
Reading is a requirement to be better citizens and for a democratic government. If we have a well educated citizen body with good reading skills, our country; which is already one of the most powerful countries in the world, can become a greater country. If we encourage this generation and the ones that are coming to read more and to learn more reading skills then we will build a better future.

I think it’s true that teens don’t read for pleasure anymore. This generation have more technology and we are to distracted. There are so many distractions on the Internet media, or watching TV, or on social networks, or working or just hanging out with friends, that we don’t find time to read for fun. I think we should read more but I think that teens will always prefer to do something else than to read.
