Mountain View High School hosted College & Career Day on January 10th, 2024. The main purpose of this event is to help students think about what career path they might want to take or what they want to do after school (college, jobs, etc.) People from different operations came in to talk about their experiences in their field such as electricians and the military.
We interviewed students at the conclusion of this event and here is what they had to say;
What did you learn from College & Career Day?
- Many things
- I learned how to apply to NoVa and GMU
- About the army and about work
- I realized that there are many option with life after high school
- I learned that it is possible to become a citizen through military training if you have a green card
- I learned a lot about the careers there are. It was interesting to see how one wants to see themselves in the future as a soldier in the army
Who did you meet and can you share any advice they gave to you?
- We met representatives from GMU and NoVa and we learned that there are many programs including a good cybersecurity program
- To take advantage of my opportunity to be part of the national army
- I talked to Chris Blondi, the training director representing Plumbing & Gasfitters Apprenticeship Training Facility in Lanham, Maryland.
- I know the pathway to citizenship is my goal and it can be difficult at times but it is possible. I learned about options at NoVa and I am still deciding if its right for me. I learned that GMU has a partnership with NoVa and documentation is not a requirement for enrollment.

Can you describe any career goals you have ta the moment for your future?
- no not yet
- I have a goal to graduate from GMU with a degree in cybersecurity. I imagine one day working for a government contracting company. I enjoy working on computers while keeping people safe from corruption and threats.
- Be part of the Army National Guard
- Im interested in firefighting and underwater welding.
- Its hard to imagine my future at the moment but it is good to understand some possibilities.
- For the moment, learn English and learn to drive cars and move up the grade.
