Social Studies is a subject that looks at human activity and behavior. It often focuses on how people interact with each other and the environment. Human society is unique in the desire to communicate and connect ideas. People are naturally curious about other people because our minds are built to seek understanding; it’s something we are born with. Social Studies includes many fields, like history, politics, geography, psychology, philosophy, religion, economics, gender studies, and international relations. While these fields are different, they all share one idea: the connection between people and their thoughts. Thoughts are expressed through word and action which each bring about consequences on all levels of society.
An interesting learning practice in Government class is to define, think and write about one word of the day. Each word comes to mind by engaging ourselves in practices like meditation. When we define words fully we understand their meaning. As we understand the meaning we are able to make connections to what we study.
