The 19th Amendment; What ERROR does it CORRECT?
From the beginning in the 18th century throughout the 19th century, several generations of women suffrage supporters lectured, wrote, marched, lobbied, and practiced civil disobedience to achieve what many Americans considered a radical change of the Constitution. Few early supporters lived to see final victory in 1920.
Sustainable development Goal 5 : Gender Equality
Gender equality is not only a fundamental human right, but a necessary foundation for a peaceful, prosperous and sustainable world. There has been progress over the last decades, but the world is not on track to achieve gender equality by 2030.
Women and girls represent half of the world’s population and therefore also half of its potential. But gender inequality persists everywhere and stagnates social progress.
On average, women in the labor market still earn 23 percent less than men globally and women spend about three times as many hours in unpaid domestic and care work as men.
Advancing gender equality is critical to all areas of a healthy society, from reducing poverty to promoting the health, education, protection and the well-being of girls and boys.
Gender discrimination is more prevalent in countries where:
1:Weak or developing economies:In countries with slow : In countries with slow economic development, there are equal opportunities for men and women.
2:conservative cultures and traditions:Nations with patriarchal systems and strong traditional norms often perpetuate.
3.Unequal laws and policies :Countries where legal systems favor men in areas such as inheritance, marriage or employment.
4.Low level of education :Countries with low literacy rates , especially among women ,tend to exhibit higher levels of discrimination.
5. Religious extremism: nations enforcing strict religious interpretation often impose discriminatory practices against women.
In contrast, countries with higher education levels, strong economies, and gender equal laws, such as Scandinavian nations, experience lower levels of gender discrimination.
Countries that have effectively prevented gender discrimination (Iceland, Sweden, Norway, Finland, New Zealand, Canada, Germany) these countries are leaders in reducing discrimination.
Countries that have applied the most discrimination against women include:(Afghanistan, Yemen, Somalia, Pakistan, Nigeria)these countries impose considerable gender discrimination due to a combination of cultural, religious and social factors.
