On Thursday April 30, student representatives from each of the FCPS high schools were invited to the conference table of Superintendent Dr. Michelle Reid. We discussed the use of AI in education. Sharing these ideas helped create new questions to guide us in the school year ahead. We are in the middle of a social revolution in education. When it was my turn to speak I asked, “How can we ensure that when we use artificial intelligence in schools that the student is still learning?” We spoke about the need to remain humanly creative and imaginative in our learning. You will hear my question at minute 20:15 in the video. As I listened intently, Dr. Reid acknowledged the challenge of trust when writing with AI, She agrees that creativeity and imagination are at the center of human learning. We can use AI as a tool to organize and translate ideas but we should not give up our power of human crrativity and imagination as we apply the knowledge.
