If life is a journey of learning then we are reminded that we do not walk alone. On Friday April 17th, 50 members of the Mt. View family participated in our anual cross curriculum learning experience at the Stone Bridge of Manassass. We can connect themes or images in our photo to any subject we study in our classes.
This publication is a work in progress. We will be adding to it all week.
DESCRIBE your photo I see the colors green, blue, white, dark shadows, bright light, I am walking out of shadows into light, I am walking on a pathway of US History but it is also a personal pathway of my own history. I am wearing blue jeans; American fashion that I did not wear before I came to the USA. I see trees, lines, shapes in the woods around me. Fresh wind is blowing my hair, the sun is shining warmly. A white cloud appears ahead of me. My friend Hana took this photo which shows me walking alone but I am not alone.
This photo shows a peaceful outdoor scene in an open field. In the foreground , there is a wooden bench placed on the patch of dirt, slightly angled and sitting under the shade of a large, old tree. The tree has a thick, textured trunk and long , twisting branches that stretch outward, casting shadows across the ground. Surrounding the bench is green grass and a worn dirt path that leads into the distance. In the background, There’s a wide, open grassy field bordered by a line of trees, creating a natural horizon. The sky above shows a light blue sky with white fluffy clouds covered by green leaves. (duwap (David din))
In this photo, I see a beautiful landscape: the sky is sunny with white clouds, and the trees have green leaves. This reminds me of my country—the Land of Eternal Spring (Guatemala)—and the lake reflecting the sky.In Government class we learn one word a day. Today the word is JOURNEY. A journey can be making progess in one day or it can be over a long time. It means to travel or walk from one place to another, taking one step at a time. We all have a journey in life. Citizenship is about seeing people on our journey as community. At Mt. View we see citizenship in education and we value each other as Family with Love and Respect. All of us come from different places but we share this Mt. View learning experience. This is me in Nebaj Guatemala in 2024. I am on a journey to learn English. I am learning every day. It is important to talk with each other and trust.Peace and beauty on the trail. We are always giving signals to each other. This is part of popular culture which we study in History class. The signal I am sending is geometric because my two fingers are held at an angle away from each other. This is the traditional sign for “Peace”Beautiful day with my beautiful friends. I will never forget this day in my life. 🙂 This was one of the most beautiful days of my life—a day I will never forget—because I spent it with the most wonderful friends in the world. It was a sunny day with flawless weather, set in a lush green environment surrounded by verdant trees and colorful flowers. This photograph we took together captures the very essence of friendship, companionship, true camaraderie, and love; for me, all of this will remain a cherished school memory holding a special place in my heart. The photo shows me standing on an island with friends in the middle of a stream named Bull Run. I am from Ethiopia. We study in Government the United States Constitution which begins with the words of the Preamble. “We the people of the United States , in order to form a more perfect union….” When we stand on this island we see the waters of time have created a union that is never totally perfect but it is more perfect than it used to be. I study Physics. Physics teaches us about force. The water of the stream in this photo is calm but there are signs of forceful waters which come during storms. I study math. The force of the water takes one rock and divides it into many pieces of sand to create the island. This is called erosion in science and it is called division in math and it is called “a more perfect union” in American society when we speak about unity in diveversity.
In this photo you see two friends who met at Mt. View. I am from Guatemala. He is from El Salvador. We have different history and geography but we now walk down the same pathway of friendship. Here at Mt. View, we speak of learning in an environment of Family. Love. and Respect. We can find this in one another as friends.
We can connect themes or images in our photo to any subject we study in our classes.
GOVERNMENT class teaches us about citizenship. We come to school to be educated citizens. Democracy needs education. The founding fathers only wanted educated people to be citizens. More people enjoy American citizenship today because more people are educated,
HISTORY class teaches us about places of war. This beautiful place was a witness to war 165 years ago when the United States Civil War began. Abraham Lincoln ordered the Union military from the city to meet the Confederate troops arriving by train from Manassas. The Union military tried to go upstream to cross by surprise byt the Southern army had spies who saw them. The Union lost their first battle here on the field we saw when we hiked this trail.
PHYSICS: In Physics class we calculate formulas of force. There are invisible forces everywhere. The small river has less force today. Sometimes it has the force and volume to rush over this pathway and flood the banks. This can cause destruction like war.
ENGLISH our ability to think, speak and write in English is important. When we can think, speak and write about our own experiences and relationships it becomes meaningful and motivating.
I see the nice bright yellow flowers and the amount of pollen on the flowers. In some way we all connect together . We all bleed red. We may not be close to each other but in some way we all connect and are there for each other. Nature can teach us about ourselves.“Not lost, Just exploring” What can you discover in this photo?“The world feels better this way” Learning shapes our perspective.
“A lot more than what u see” It’s deep to think how much more things can hold that not everyone can see. It appears to be just a shadow of unknown people, to the ones who don’t know the depth of the moment, fortunately captured, but it is more than that, it’s a nice memory for me to remember that I got to spend with my friends and it would always be one of the special. (Meee)Lingering in the light and the shadows. We all have our own way and we bridge the gap in dialogue. The Mountain View Sisters smile in the sun. Family is an educational value because it is always our first place of learning.
Teachers lead the way. This energetic man teaches Theatre, Math, Computer Science and Perdonal Finance; a real Renaissance man.Same name; teacher and student standing in the flow. Two Mt. View brothers of the same first name but with different journeys celebrate knowing each other briefly in the flow of Family. Love, and Respect.
My favorite flower . In Physics we study the scattering of light which makes lighter and darker shadows. How light is absorbed and reflected creates the color of the flower.
Geosystems: We study atmosphere and weather. There is water in the sky eben on a sunny day. The water cycle is in this photo because it shows the light of the sun which causes evaporation and the life of the river which allows the trees to grow. The beauty of sky ; colors, lines and shapes show life.
Geometry can be studied in this photo . I see the “Shapes, lines, width, length , angles, height, area, perimeter”The old and the new. A meeting place rooted in common ground.Geosystems. Do you see the layers of time? Can you describe the evidence of flowing water in the ground? What layers of time and substance do you see?
A crossing point at the start of the Civil War. How does geography affect our decisions?
The Mountain View Brothers. What’s worth fighting for? Were the men who walked across this bridge in 1861 our age? How are we stronger together? The heights of friendship. We sit on the edge together. This photo is all about perspective. We are looking down as our teacher sees us reaching the heights. Are we motivated to dream big? Who is there next to us and even beneath us supporting us. No man reaches success alone. There is a wall of past generations who support us as well as a community surrounding us.What lies ahead? How can we measure the distance and the volume of our journey. Who builds the pathway that we follow? How many steps have gone before us?
