Have you ever wanted to make a difference? But you don’t know how. In the United States we have many Americorps that can help you fulfill your dream of helping and providing assistance to those in need in times of disasters. You become part of a force that helps communities get back together and you build a strong resume of leadership for your future. Joining Americorps can open many doors for you.
Two Weeks ago we had Two FEMA guest speakers visit Mountain View to inform us about the AmeriCorps Federal program. One of our students, Maddie, interviewed both speakers on why they joined and what it takes to be in the FEMA Corps. FEMA corps provides housing not just for the communities that are in need but also for the members that become part of the team. No skills are required to join. For some programs like vista and nation corp you may need a college degree and you need to be older than 18 years old.
Many students don’t know what they want to do after graduation. Some have an idea and they seek to help others but they lack on experience doing so. I myself am looking to become a police officer and joining an organization like FEMA will really help me stand out when I apply. AmeriCorps programs are usually 10 months to a year in the program. This may seem like a long time but in reality joining a corp and being able to help others will leave a long-lasting satisfaction in you that you were able to do something not many people would be able to commit to.
