Making pupusas is not as difficult as you may think. First , start with Maseca/Masa or Harina. Combine Maseca corn flour with one cup warm water and a table-spoon of salt. Then, mix the dough with your fingers until it come together. After mixing, it the dough should feel soft and lightweight. Knead the dough for a minute and cover it in a bowl with a damp towel at room temperature for 5 to 10 minutes. Then, roll the piece between your palms until you have a round ball. Flatten the ball using the palmer method dipping your finger tips in a water dish while patting it flat. This helps to seal the dough. Push the center of the pupusas down to create a shallow dish for cheese.Add one table-spoon of shredded cheese in to the dough. Roll the stuffed pupusas into a ball. Put oil in your hands and then press the ball. Work gently, so the hidden cheese filling doesn’t break through. In short, this is the best easiest way to make pupusas.
