Of Mice and Men by John Steinbeck is a story of power and respect. It is set during the great depression in California in the 1930s. The United States was broken. People didn’t have jobs. The characters had to migrate to California to find a new job. People posted good pictures of the United States and the American way of life in the news because they didn’t want to show other countries that they were broken.
This book shows the power struggle of human beings. Some of the characters want to have power over others. The people who want to have power over other persons ware doing cruel things to feel powerful. They did bad things because they didn’t have enough power, and they didn’t have the respect that they wanted to have from other persons.
Crooks stood up from his bunk and faced her. “I had enough,” he said coldly. “You got no rights comin’ in a colored man’s room. You got no rights messing around in here at all. Now you jus’ get out, an’ get out quick. If you don’t, I’m gonna ast the boss not to ever let you come in the barn no more.”
She turned on him in scorn. “Listen, Nigger,” she said. “You know what I can do to you if you open your trap?”
Crooks stared helplessly at her, and then he sat down on his bunk and drew into himself.
She closed on him. “You know what I could do?”
Crooks seemed to grow smaller, and he pressed himself against the wall. “Yes, ma’am.”
I seen hundreds of men come by on the road an’ on the ranches, with their bindles on their back an’ that same damn thing in their heads . . . every damn one of ’em’s got a little piece of land in his head. An’ never a God damn one of ’em ever gets it. Just like heaven. Ever’body wants a little piece of lan’. I read plenty of books out here. Nobody never gets to heaven, and nobody gets no land.
I have seen how people from around the world come to the United States to have a better future. Many teenagers come to the United States to study. Some of them might be illegals, but they are here because they want to have a better future. They dream to be someone in the future. Other students are already in schools and universities and they have applied to be protected by the American Dreamers law( Deferred Action of Childhood Arrivals )of President Obama.
The new president, Donald Trump is trying to destroy immigrant students future because he is going to take away immigrant students from United States Universities. The dream of all those students can be destroyed. Our new president is a pretty rich man. His father gave him a lot of money to invest and he has always lived with a lot of money. Thus, now he is a powerful man for his billions of dollars that he has. He has no idea what it is like to honestly work hard for survival or to dream for a better life.

Our New President Donald Trump used fear and disrespect to get elected. He wanted to get power and respect by doing things that he should not do. For example, a few days ago he sent his press secretary Sean Spicer out to speak for him to say more people came to his inauguration than the other presidents’ inaugurations. He is worried about how powerful he looks. Donald Trump is also talking about immigrants. He said that he is going send the immigrants to their countries and he just gave an executive order to start building the wall on our border with Mexico. The President of Mexico was scheduled to visit the President at the White House but he canceled because he was so angry and the bullying of Mr. Trump.
Some people also want to feel powerful over immigrants, for the new president divides Americans and increases racism by treating immigrants with fear and disrespect. Immigrants are the new migrant workers looking for a job.
President Trump has been offending people by his posts on twitter. He sometimes just acts like a kid because he looks like he just speaks his words without thinking . All he wants is power. This scares many Americans because when some people want to feel powerful they do crazy things.
The day of the inauguration when President Obama was about to transfer the power of president to Donald Trump. Trump felt like he was the king of the world. He didn’t even show respect to his wife. He was the first to walk out of the car and walk where president Obama and his wife were. Here he showed that he only thinks in his own power and respect.
The United States is more divided now with the new president because the majority of voters did not vote for him.
The end of the book Of Mice and Men was so sad because George Killed Lennie because he thinks that he has the power over him. We have now our new president showing that he has power over us. We don’t need him to do something crazy to us. We just need to believe in God, speak out for what is right and hope that nothing bad is going to happen to this beautiful country. We know that as a group we are stronger than one man. We know that our government has balanced power of the people and the constitution protects our rights.

I read the book of mice and men before and in my opinion George didn’t kills Lennie because he feel he has the power to do it, he did it because he doesn’t want Curley to catch lennie and make him suffer more. Talking about our new president and how he acts and the things that he does. I agree with you. Mr. Trump is going to do everything that he can to get power and respect that really is not respect is fear more of the immigrant community.

To make somebody feel miserable to make you feel powerful actually makes you a coward to my point of view.

This story talks about power and respect. Power is not everything in life. we need to be treat equally because we all are the same. We own our respect by doing good actions. We need to show respect first If we want to be respect by other people. We don’t need to be mean to try to get the respects from other. If we do that, it is not a good respect. My pints of view.
