Between shades of grey by Ruta Sepety made me realize how to appreciate my family and respect where I came from. What is a human life worth? We see in this book how cruel people can be. Also how our past can impact our lives more than we think. One of the main characters was a young 15 year old girl named Lina Vilkos who loved painting and drawing. Lina and her family were from Lithuania. She was taken from her home along with her brother Jonas Vilkos and her mother Elena Vilkos while her father was taken and sentence to death at a prison camp.(NKVD) (1941). It was a long journey on to Siberia. It is through incredible strength, love, and
hope that Lina ultimately survives. Between Shades of Gray is a novel that will steal your breath and capture your heart.
