COLOR BLINDNESS
DESCRIPTION
Color blindness is a genetic condition caused by a difference in how one or more of the light sensitive cells found in the retina of the eye responds to certain colors. Color blindness is considered to be vision deficiency, which means their perception of color is different from what most us see.
There are three mains kinds of color blindness. The problem is with the type of photo pigment which causes defects in the three different kind of cones that respond to blue, green, and red light. Red-green color blindness is the most common followed by blue-yellow blindness. The last type of colorblindness is blue-green.
SYMPTOMS
The most common symptoms of color blindness is a change in your vision. For example, it may difficult to distinguish between the red and green on a traffic light. Color blindness is often detected in young children when they are learning their colors.
PROBLEMS/DIFFICULTIES
Color blind people face many difficulties in everyday life which normally sighted people are just not aware of. For people who are colorblind problems can arise even in the most simple of activities. Just choosing and preparing food, gardening, determining who is on your sport team, driving a car, and selecting clothing can be challenging. Color blind people can also find themselves in trouble because they have not been able to pick up a change in some mood by a change in the color of someone’s face. They also cannot notice their child getting sunburnt.
ASSISTANCE/SOLUTIONS
Curing color blindness is currently impossible. For men, 99% of color blindness is a result of detective genetics on their chromosome. However even this is only an educated guess, there is not presently a scientific method available to cure for color blindness.
FUTURE POSSIBILITIES:
Researches from the University of California and Johns Hopkins Medical School in Baltimore showed in a series of experiments, how the color vision abilities of mice can be compared to red-green color blindness. Dichromatic vision means they have only two different types of colors receptors in their eyes were as human normally have 3 different types which make up our color vision.
