Today was such a long day, I’ve been awake since 4:35 AM and didn’t even sleep until 3:00 AM. I got up, did some last minute packing, and headed out to the airport to meet with my boyfriend and say my goodbyes to him and my family. That was definitely the toughest thing for me to do. After arriving to Iowa, we took a charter bus to the small town of Vinton… and I mean SMALL. There are only 5,000 people in this town!
The first thing we did today was go into the gym and try on uniforms, sign a lot of papers, make sure we have our bank accounts set up, and we got yellow folders with forms in them. Throughout the day we went from station to station, room to room, exploring our campus. I live in Rice hall on the second floor. The other two residential halls are called Cottage and Palmer. Each residential building has lounges, rooms, bathrooms, laundry, kitchens and pool tables. Each building is also connected by underground tunnels, so that we don’t have to freeze out butts off outside.
After doing stations we had to go pick up our red bags that we will be taking with us on SPIKE, projects we get to travel to, that were filled with uniforms, hard hats, rain gear, rain boots, safety goggles, and more. ( I will be posting pictures of the things I received)
Then, finally, we got to go to our assigned rooms and rest. I did some shopping for some things I left at home at the market across the street (literally.) I got some shampoo, conditioner, toothpaste, and face wash.
