“We the people” started with white men who own property. We believe today that we have all the rights to vote so we all can make progress. The right to vote in America begins with education. There was no public education at the start of our country in 1789. The only people who could read and write were the rich people.
Elizabeth spoke and stood up for the people that did not have any rights. She lived through the civil war and half the time of her life slavery was happening. James Madison was president when she was born and Teddy Rosevelt was president when she died. Her life goes from the time of founding fathers to the beginning of the 20th century civil rights movement known as the progressive era.
Abolitionist means a person who favors abolishing any law or practice deemed harmful to society- in this case it refers to abolishing the legal practice of slavery.

Elizabeth Cady Stanton is an example of an early American abolitionist. She lived from November 12, 1815 – October 26, 1902, in Johnstown, New York. Elizabeth Cady Stanton was an early leader of the woman’s rights movement; writing the Declaration of Sentiments as a call to arms for female equality. She helped organize the world’s first women’s rights convention in 1848, and formed the National Women’s Loyal League with Susan B. Anthony in 1863. Seven years later, they established the National Woman Suffrage Association.
With her advocacy of liberal divorce laws and reproductive self-determination, Cady Stanton became an increasingly marginalized voice among women reformers late in life. However, her efforts helped bring about the eventual passage of the 19th Amendment, which gave all citizens the right to vote.
I think its amazing that she was talking about divorce and birth control during those times. The fact that she was being ignored by people and now what she wanted is very common is very interesting to me. If I were to meet Elizabeth Cady Stanton my question to her would be If she was afraid of something happening to her while all of this was going on since most men were against women’s rights.
