A San Jose California police officer was fatally shot last Tuesday night by a man threatening to kill himself, the suspect was later found dead inside his home. When officers first arrived at the man`s home they were sprayed with gunfire and 14 year veteran officer named Michael Johnson was found and pronounced dead at the scene.
Police evacuated neighbors of the suspect late that Tuesday night, the suspect was still believed to be in his residence. Police then identified the suspect as Scott Dunham a 57 year old male. The call was originally made by a relative who was worried about him. Officials did not state whether or not Dunham was killed by police or by his own hand.
This event brings up the values of life and authority. Some people should be mentally institutionalized to prevent this from happening, but sometimes it is not noticed until it is too late. This also questions the debate on gun control and whether or not mentally stable people should be able to own or obtain guns. This man took his own life and the life of another causing chaos in San Jose on this dark Tuesday night.
