An important topic has been brought up!
“CAN HOMEWORK MAKE YOU SICK?” I think doing homework improves repetition skills and the solution to sickness caused by stress in young people’s lifes doesn’t have to be dramatic and blamed on education. Personally I think that if you want to make it a big deal then you can, If not then it’s your own problem. Everyone in your grade has to do the same stuff.
New research shows that some students are doing more than three hours of homework a night and that all that school work may be literally making them sick. The overwhelming amount of homework students receive on a daily basis is out of proportion. It’s understandable that you need to use repetition to learn and lock in the information but three whole hours every day is crazy after a full day of school and work or extra activities after school.
There was research done last week that showed excessive homework is associated with high stress levels, physical health problems and lack of balance in children’s lives. Statistically 56% of the students in the study deemed homework and after school care of younger siblings as the primary stressor in their lives. You can read more about the study HERE
In the study conducted, the observers found a clear connection between the students’ stress and physical impacts. During the tests migraines, ulcers, other stomach problems, sleep deprivation, exhaustion, and weight loss were observed in the students. Crazy enough, some parents who were interviewed wanted more homework for their children and others wanted less. A few parents stated that they had not seen their children over an entire holiday weekend because they were attempting to complete homework assignments. You can read more HERE
Schools are a government owned place. The amount of homework isn’t up to the government to decide, its up to the school and school board. Even if all kids learn the same information in one county that doesn’t mean they are receiving the same homework. . There was a Washington Post article about why most people like homework. This issue clearly can be based off of a few peoples personal opinions.
60% of seniors in Fairfax County Public Schools have an average of 6 hours of homework per week. Compared back to 1987, the average homework assigned took two hours to complete. I think the change over time has been dramatically altered. We don’t learn the same information the school’s taught our parents, we learn much much more and we can do so by inventions like the Internet. You can read more about that article HERE.
Homework completion varies on your work ethic, what classes you’re taking, your progress in the class, if you’re retaining the information or not,and honestly if your teacher likes you or not. Some studies show that Excess homework is a huge stressor in many teens lives and it still has an impact on a person. Grade school is only the beginning of your working life if you really think about it so you might as well buckle down and get it all complete. I think dealing with stress has many beneficial things out of it. What doesn’t kill you makes you stronger and wiser. Once you come out of something like that you can reflect on and make better decisions in life. Even though some people complain about homework too much it could kill you. Stress can kill you. Manage your time correctly and you can do anything.
