A designer’s brand add was banned in the U.K due to the models appearance who appears to be extremely thin and unhealthy.Yves Saint Laurent who is accused of be irresponsible marketing disagrees with the accusations that the model was too thin or unhealthy.
This add follows the death from anorexia of French model Isabelle Caro.
This is nothing new but definitely highlights the problem of advertising aimed at young girls. The images of women in print and on the runway send the message that beauty is skin and bones. That starving yourself to death is an acceptable social behavior.
I believe the solution is to start holding the companies that promote this sort of image to a higher standard regulate the industry. Fine companies and continue banning them when they attempt publicly promoting images like this.
