Mike Muench is a former Mountain View High School teacher. He taught Info Systems and motivated many Mountain View students daily from 2012 to early in 2014 when he took advantage of a new teaching opportunity. On September 24, 2014, he was diagnosed with stage 4 lung cancer. It shocked him and everyone else because he had just taken an X-Ray months earlier that showed his lungs were clear.
He is convinced he will beat the odds even though the statistics of the diagnosis does not give him much time. Mr. Muench is loving every minute of life and living it to the fullest. He says we should all laugh, cry, love and be honest with ourselves and others and this way we will make every day “a heck of a day!”
Mr. Muench is battling through chemotherapy by staying positive and keeping his connection to friends , family and students strong. He spent the day on Thursday November 13th at Mountain View meeting and greeting everyone who walked through the front door and through the hall with his positive presence and advice. He does not want anyone to suffer needlessly through this disease and so he encourages anyone who smokes to quit now. Smoking increases your chances for lung cancer by 60%.
Mr. Muench has not taught me before in class, but I know him because he teaches everyone he meets.
Mr. Meunch spent some of his time in chemotherapy making knitted hats for the Mountain View Brave Girls. He also has put together some Lung Cancer awareness merchandise and educational material. On Friday November 14th he will be at T.C. Williams High School in Alexandria. If you would like to help Mr. Muench to fight against Lung Cancer, here is the official website that he is using to raise money and awareness:

Mr. Muench and his family are very grateful for every penny raised to help him stay positive and connected to family and friends as he undergoes treatment.
THANK YOU MR. MUENCH for being a positive and inspiring example of FAMILY, LOVE and RESPECT no matter what difficulty we may face in life.

I never had Mr.Meunch as a teacher, but with both of our bold personalities we clashed one day and he became one of my favorite teachers. When he taught here he would be in the hall way talking to everyone who passed him and without a doubt, they walked away from Mr.Meunch with a smile on their face. He is just that type of person and has been since I’ve known him. The news of his stage 4 lung cancer came as a complete shock to me and I never thought that i would be seeing him again under these conditions. I do beleieve though, that God has chosen him single handedly to fight this battle. With his optimistic outlook on life and inspiring advice to others, he is the perfect person to spread awareness in the most positive way. I find it hard to feel sorry for Mr.Meunch and what hes going through because he does not allow himself to feel bad for him. I do pray for him and his family going through this struggle. I truly hope he can beat it no matter what odds are against him. Meunch you’re a fighter but like your pin said, you’re not fighting alone. The view will walk by you and your family every step of the way showing our support and love for our former teacher. Family, Love, and Respect run through our blood at all times, but especially at times like this. #FightForMeunch #NooneFightsAlone
