This article discusses how a girl was not allowed to wear her moccasins, which has great Native American cultural importance, to graduation. She was however, allowed to wear her Native American dress because it wasn’t visible. She has started a petition on change.org to support her, and has already gotten 1,500 signatures appealing the decision of her school.
In my opinion this is a situation that has gotten out of proportion for no reason and makes me wonder why situations like these still occur. It’s the school’s fault for not letting her express her Native American heritage by simply letting her wear an outfit of all things. It’s not going to hurt anyone if she wear’s some shoes and a dress under her gown so why not? Why stop her and make a big huge fuss over something that’s nothing?
