Santa Fe High School shooting.
“On May 18, ten people were pronounced dead and another ten wounded after a student opened fire at a Santa Fe school. The suspect, Dimitrios Pagourtzis, a 17-year-old student, used a shotgun and revolver he stole from his father. Investigations are ongoing.” – NYTimes 05/18/18
We are only in May and so far there has already been 22 school shootings in the U.S. That’s about one school shooting every week since we have entered the new year. I’m not sure anyone knows the reasoning behind these mass school shootings, but I do know that innocent kids are dying because of this. I wish I knew what was going through an individuals head before he or she decides to kill innocent people for simply no reason.
Government officials are recommending that teachers be allowed to have fire arms in the school. At first I personally was against this idea, but with these school shootings happening more and more frequently I would move to the notion that teachers be allowed to carry fire arms on school grounds. Mainly because you really just never know what’s going through an individuals head once they step through those school doors. It’s really sad that it should even have to come to this. I believe it’s to the point now where kids are afraid to go to school, and quite frankly I don’t blame them. So far in 2018, 31 lives have already been claimed as a result of a school shooting, five being teachers and staff.
One crucial issue especially in today’s society is gun control. Many Americans feel that we should do away with our second amendment. (the right to bear arms) I don’t necessarily agree with that statement, but something does need to be done to protect our schools across the country. I believe we should move to the notion that teachers and staff are allowed to carry fire arms on school grounds. That’s one of the only solutions that seems logical without completely removing the second amendment, which I don’t think is completely necessary. Americans should always have the right to bear arms and protect themselves when the time comes to do so.

As bad as a school shooting is, the stat of a school shooting per week is wrong. That’s gun related instances like suicide in the parking lot, or a stray bullet hitting a school (Still all bad things that shouldn’t be happening to a school). Gun control is one of the hardest issues we face today. I agree we shouldn’t remove the second amendment, but maybe instead work around it to make it better. A couple of things that could better prevent these shootings are metal detectors and maybe more armed resource officers. Arming teachers is another thing that should be talked about too.

It’s disheartening that different protocols must be taken for the kids simply going to school to learn. It’s a sad thing that instead of banning guns, a solution the government see’s as a possibility is teachers having guns? That, is ridiculous to me. Adding violence to more violence will not solve the ongoing issue we have in not only schools but, in the country overall.

I really hope the United states government will do something about the control of fire arms which have to be soon. Is very very bad that innocent people like students in schools keep dying just because police don’t do something about the control of guns. public places like schools should be a safe place for students. The police should act rapidly when they see suspicious people that seems criminals.

teachers shouldn’t be allow guns in schools because I think is more dangerous for them and students. I know that violence is everywhere including schools, but we can change it, taking the right decisions and starting with our government because they are the most important part of the country’s health. Parents also need to start paying attention to their kids. They have the obligation of teaching the good values and the importance of life respecting other people lives.
