A thirteen year old cancer survivor was found dead on the side of the road earlier this month. The victim, named Nicole Lovell was found by Police on Saturday Feb. 6th. She was stabbed to death and left on the side of the road. The two suspects are students from Virginia Tech.
18 year old Tech student David Eisenhauer is charged with kidnapping and murder. The other suspect Natalie Keepers is 19 years old and she is accused of helping David dump the girl’s body. Prosecutors are also indicating she may have played a roll before Nicole died. Tammy Weeks, Nicole’s mother broke down detailing her daughter’s life long struggles.
Her mother says “Nicole was a very lovable person.”
According to neighbors, Nicole has told her friends she was going to sneak out to see her boyfriend David (the suspect). She met David through an kids online social media app called KIK.
How could parents prevent this from happening to their children?
My advice is to keep a better eye on your child, add restrictions to their internet use, and check on what they use and what they do online. Parents need to explain to their children that trust is not the same thing as secrecy. Real love leads to openness and honesty not online secrets.

People need to use common sense when using the internet. You never know who you are actually talking to online, what they’re capable of, or what their intentions are. Its not right what the teens did to the 13 year old girl, but she should have also been more careful with who and what she was doing.
