Today 3 out of 10 teen American girls will get pregnant at least once before age 20. That’s nearly 750,000 teen pregnancies every year. It’s a lot of responsibility to raise a child while being a teenager. More than half of teen mothers never graduate from high school. Therefore, a teen mother needs a lot of support but not every girl gets support because 8 out of 10 teen dads don’t marry the mother of their child. As a result, they end up dropping out of school and start working. Yet, almost 50 percent of teens have never considered how the pregnancy would change their lives. Some research shows that teenagers are having sex and they’re not using contraception. If you’re going to have sex, you have to protect yourself. Couples who have sex regularly for a whole year without using contraception have an 85% chance of getting pregnant. That’s a really high number. Parenting at any age can be challenging, but it can be particularly difficult for teen parents.
