Trump Threatening to Declare a National Emergency
As we enter day 16 of the government shutdown, hundreds of thousands of workers are without pay, National Parks are getting trashed, and people are struggling to get by on food and rent. Neither side are showing any signs of budging as day by day goes by. In recent news, Trump has been quoted saying “We can call a national emergency because of the security of our country” and “I haven’t done it. I may do it. We can call a national emergency and build it very quickly”. Of Course if Trump were to call a national emergency, he’d collect the Defense Department dollars and use them to build the wall. If he were to do so, he would get challenged in court (Congress can challenge the definition of the “National Emergency”) about the so called “National Emergency”. He would have to prove of said emergency too.
In reality, it was just another extreme idea floated in the air by president Trump. No one knows if he was bluffing or if he would actually act upon it, but it is still noteworthy that he’d even suggest such and idea.
