In 1960 this propaganda was created before we entered into Vietnam combat. This propaganda shows how many countries had fallen to communism in the 1950s . America doesn’t want to end up like the other countries and sink the American ship on the iceberg of Communism. President Harry Truman proposed a doctrine of containment in the early 1950s and President Eisenhower adopted a policy of massive retaliation against the spread of communism .
This propaganda encourages democratic people to “stamp em out!” before they start their first bite. This means don’t let them attack first. This could be applied to the western military buildup in Europe against the Eastern Soviet “Iron Curtain” and it also could relate to President Truman’s “Containment policy” of Communism throughout the world. This Propaganda shows how Uncle Sam ( USA) joined the the United Nations at the end of World War 2 in 1947. The image shows how big and strong America has been and how the United Nations had been supported by United States all along. We learned our lesson from failing to join the League of Nations after World War I but we have definitely been seen as a “super power” with much responsibility in the world since WW II.This propaganda from WWII is a symbol of a German Nazi shoe destroying a church which means destroying the 1st amendment right of everyone who believes their own religion. We the people of the great American democracy have to prevent this from happening. The USA desired to defeat Hitler first because he was seen as the biggest threat to European democracy. This also shows how democratic nations were more religious in the 1940s.This propaganda shows fear of what communism could do to America if we don’t step up to the plate and recognize how many lives could be lost to military dictatorship. China became a Communist dictatorship in 1949. We fought in Korea from 1951-1953 and later in Vietnam from 1960-1973.
