A Florida judge sentenced Michael Dunn to life in prison without parole, for shooting 17-year-old Jordan Davis.
This happened about two years ago over an argument about loud music. Dunn has served years for three convictions of attempted murder and firing a gun into a car. Dunn is a white 47-year-old male, and he was convicted of first degree murder two years after the incident of shooting into a car full of african americans because of loud music and killing Jordan Davis in the process.
Michael Dunn claimed that he was defending himself, as he saw Jordan Davis reaching for a gun, but they didn’t find a gun. When Dunn was getting sentenced he apologized to the Davis family for the first time. The court also ruled Dunn continued to shoot after the teens fled the scene, so they ruled him the aggressor over all. Three of a the ten shots fired actually hit Jordan.
This incident really shows that the safety of U.S citizens is endangered and that is not good. It is also endangered by foreign countries but in this case another citizen. A lot of incidents have been happening like this, especially with cop involvement. Mountain View gives out a lot of good core values to take with you into your life. I think more schools should emphasize this, it would result in better American citizens, because they would take those core values and implement them into their everyday lives.
After reading this my views have changed on gun control vs gun rights. I think the government should control guns in the U.S. I think that the government should only allow citizens to buy shotguns and rifles strictly for hunting. The government would then have the access to more firepower then us citizens. Also the government should do a mental health evaluation to only let mentally stable people own guns.

I totally agree with you that the government should control the guns in the U.S. because I think that the American gun used is out of control. I understand that is the Second Amendment of the Bill of Right, people have to right to keep or bear arms to be able to protect themselves. However, this is written for many ago and the society has changed a lot. I think it is time to change.

This incident it’s such tragic for the victim’s family and shocking for the community and all across the United States. I agree with the sentencing of life without parole, because he took an innocent live for something minor that could’ve been handled a different way. Cases like this supports the movement on tougher gun control, which is understandable but i don’t know if the whole nation should suffer for the stupidity of others.
